Re: hey guys does this seem fair?
right Jay, heed the advice you're getting on here (collectively we must have hundreds of years of coupe ownership between us all) keep what you've got, accept you bought a dog. Get the rust sorted in what way you see fit, give her a service for gods sake, then run her to destruction.
Given your financial situation I dont think you've got much option to be honest. V6's, turbos, weekend cars, show cars on the back burner. End of the day you're only 20 these things will come, but day to day life has to take priority mate.

Re: hey guys does this seem fair?
Get your car checked out - find out what's wrong with it
Get something SENSIBLE for now if you have to (cheap 1.8l Mondeo for £500 or something) if the repairs would cost too much to get it doing more than 20mpg
Get your partner back in work
Save up for something else

Don't take things to heart, it's only banter but with more than a hint of truth lol.. I myself have been where you are and a lot worse tbh and the folk on here helped me. I can remember asking how to disable my immobiliser and got slated so much I had to hide in a WW2 bunker for 2weeks, thanks smokes..
Seriously, take advise if it's free to avoid wasting pennies, drive your car, enjoy and soon we hope a corner will be turned for you. My saying is " all the poo I've been through has brought me to the place I am now "
Have patience mate, it'll come.

Re: hey guys does this seem fair?
I totally agree, my finance situation is to change in two weeks or so, but yeah at 20 I'm hit pretty hard, debts, bills, ect but got to get on with it, serviceing her tomorrow,
The juddering I was feeling I've moved my SRI slightly and that's stoped? Confused but okay, less bumpy for sure!
As for the mpg I don't think its drinking as much as it says? Could the file dial be touchy? I was on empty last night, no fuel light though? Onboard computer said 93 left, put £5 in so roughly 4.8lt? Fuel gauge went to half? No way £5 would half fill it, left to work this morning on half got half way to work and it was on 1/4 drive the rest of the way still on 1/4 now? Computers not much help as it says 53 now :S
But Saturday she will be fully checked over and serviced

Re: hey guys does this seem fair?
As I said earlier. don't look at that gauge, its a gimmick nothing more, use Fuelly.com for a better estimate, same goes for the fuel mileage estimate.

The SRI could cause issues, yeah. The closer it is to the manifold, the warmer the air is that gets sucked up which could cause it to judder a little. You want your air as cold as possible. It seems like a CAI is a better filter to fit to this car. There are longer tubed SRI's but IMHO when the tube is as long as it needs to be to not pull in that warm air, it's not really short any more.
If you've got the stock air box still, try fitting a K&N panel filter in that instead.

Re: hey guys does this seem fair?
Serviced car, changed oil and other fluids where topped up, swapped the SRI/LSRI lol back to original air box, checked sparkys and fuel injectors, all seemed fine so was left alone, checked acceleration cable was tight no problems there, squeezed pipes (not really needed but I've always done since a head gasket blew) all seemed flexy and clean, started her up felt amazing no judder ect, checked engine over when she was idle (typical woman) and oh [Flying one] oil squirting out of rocker gasket, turned her off left her got some do it yourself kinda draw on rocker seal, about 5 hours later took rocker cover off re did the seal, little bit of sludge build up, removed it, left for a hour, cover back on, started her up bam! Perfect.. Checked air pressure in tyres, they are low, I don't have a pump so sort that Monday at work, apart from that she's running perfect and I'm getting around 30mpg again

Nice one. Now ain't that better than having to get another car?!JayDKirk wrote:Serviced car, changed oil and other fluids where topped up, swapped the SRI/LSRI lol back to original air box, checked sparkys and fuel injectors, all seemed fine so was left alone, checked acceleration cable was tight no problems there, squeezed pipes (not really needed but I've always done since a head gasket blew) all seemed flexy and clean, started her up felt amazing no judder ect, checked engine over when she was idle (typical woman) and oh [Flying one] oil squirting out of rocker gasket, turned her off left her got some do it yourself kinda draw on rocker seal, about 5 hours later took rocker cover off re did the seal, little bit of sludge build up, removed it, left for a hour, cover back on, started her up bam! Re: hey guys does this seem fair?
Rocker gasket = £13
False economy using that other stuff, I hope you don't get another leak, glad to hear you believe your getting 30mpg now.
sounds as though something was not right with your SRI

Re: hey guys does this seem fair?
Shes finally running better no juddering ect still bit thirsty but hey she's not a diesel cant expect to much lol she's thirsty on cold runs so I might start to tick her over for 10min then drive her but apart from that she's had her flu jab lol

Okay that makes no sense at all, if you sit there for ten minutes all your doing is wasting fuel and thus lowering your MPG, it will do the complete opposite of what your trying to attempt!
Get in start up and drive, its going to warm up a dam sight quicker than sitting on idle for ten minutes.

Re: hey guys does this seem fair?
I always thought a hot engine run better than a cold engine as that's why cars get better mpg on long runs? Or am I just loseing the plot here lol
