Clutch Slave Cylinder Modification

#1

Post by Frag »

Cheers to marko on UKHCC for a top guide full credit to him

The idea of this mod is to remove a flow restrictor from your slave cylinder. this allows for faster engagement of the clutch and less slippage when driving hard. It will also make the bite a bit sharper.

Ok first up, your going to need some tools,

- flat head screw driver
- phillips screw driver
- 10mm socket/spanner
- 12?mm socket/spanner (cant remember EXACT size!)
- DOT 3/4 brake & clutch fluid

first up, if you have engine plastics remove the ones from the right hand side of the bay, this will expose the battery and airbox and is the only step I forgot to photograph!

Next up, slacken the clips either side of the MAF.

Image

Release the clips at each corner of the airbox and jiggle the lid until it lifts off. Set it aside

Image

Remove the air filter to expose the 3 bolts in the bottom of the airbox, remove these with 10mm spanner.

Image

lift the airbox out of the engine bay to expose the cylinder

Image

remove the lock pin using the flat head driver (or pliers, or whatever!) just pull it away. once removed lift the pin out too.

Image

Slacken the two main bolts holding the cylinder in place but DO NOT remove them

Image

Slacken the bolt at the back of the cylinder, again DO NOT REMOVE IT!

Image

Now remove the two main bolts. the cylinder should be free to lift away.

CAREFULLY remove the end bolt (The one that is nice and loose), some oil will leak out. be very careful also to not lose the two seals on this bolt! you might want to hold it with a rag.

Image

tip the cylinder up to get the restrictor to fall out, its that tiny little thing with a spring on it that probably already fell out!

Image

thats it! put it back together by following these steps in reverse, bleed the clutch BEFORE refitting the airbox!

to do this pop the little rubber cap off the side of the cylinder to expose a small nipple, follow these steps to bleed it

press and release clutch pedal ONCE
slacken bleed nipple to release air, retighten
press and release clutch pedal ONCE
slacken bleed nipple to release air, retighten
keep repeating this until no air comes out.
check and top up the clutch fluid after each press, its in different places on different models but is a tiny reservoir at the back of the engine bay.

put the airbox back together and away you go!

hope you like the improvements!

muchos gracias to Deebe for taking these pics, and providing the car!

Will be getting done when the 4-2-1 manifold goes on. Hopefully on the 7th but can;t get hold of the garage so may be next week.

There was a nice guide made, seems someone deleted it for whatever reason.

OK Cool, thanks.

I'm going to the Garage soon and have a few things for them to do. I just don't know if I'll like this mod or not, so perhaps I'll miss it off this time.

Trust me, you will like it. I was unsure at first and now that it's done I would never go back. The spongy feeling when using the clutch has all but gone and you can actually really feel bite point (which has not got smaller). You can pay the garage to do it or it takes half an hour including bleeding the clutch :handgestures-thumbupleft:

I'm sure you can ask Daz, he took the time to replace the one you decided to delete.

The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away, :icon-lol:

I spent a lot of time putting together several step by step guides in a clear and detailed way, with photos etc.. What bothered me is that with others copying what I had done, my ride would be less unique, but I felt it would be nice to contribute to the forum and help out others as much as they do they same for me. Unfortunately, the amount of abuse I got from you, making me out to be some kind of egotistical jerk and the way it was condoned by other moderators, has made me regret contributing in this way.
Please thank the folks who help. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Well I got the fluxion rear window trims. Now a guy does them 1/2 the price and everyone has them.
Don't see me throwing the toys out the pram.

If you are worried about people getting ideas from what you do or doing the same thing maybe you should remove your diary too.
Or you could realize that most of what you are doing yourself has already been done before and there's nothing to get the hump about.
Clutch slave cylinder mod being one example, I knew how to do it about 4 years ago, doubtless it was done many years before that. There's nothing new with these cars really.

The lord if he exists has nothing to do with it.

The forum is here to help everyone. I don't have the personal time to run round playing childish games replacing posts by people who have a little snit on. Deleting posts only serves to make it more difficult for members to solve problems, but due to the fact this mod has been around since gen1's I hardly think it's affecting anyone's uniqueness. All it does is dissapoint people needing help and makes more work for me

Yes, to be fair Jason, there is nothing new...... Unless it's crap tho. I'm not having a dig,, it's a forum to help and share with other owners ok. I did post on your diary, very positive if you remember.
Even the piss easy clutch mod has been asked about and discussed every week.
To be fair Jason, why the hell post a diary if you can't bear copy cats ? I'd love to copy some ideas. Ie robbos f2e but I don't have time or a garage and I don't think he would mind anyways !!
Calm down man and put it to bed forever please. It's got boring. IMHO of course. No offence mate.

I don 't mind people copying should they choose to do so, except dodge, it 's time he started thinking for himself ;)

If people copy it's a compliment surely and the idea behind a club is to share ideas

I thought Dodge's was one of the more unique rides. I'm quite jealous of the metal bits he has in his interior, that door hinge plating being a good example. It would be nice if he updated his diary a bit more so people could see it. If anything should ever befall that Coupe, I'll be first calling him up asking for bits, once I checked he was OK first of course... uhum...

I totally agree with you on the idea of the club and that's why I contributed that way. There's so many people asking the same question so a collective post/guide is helpful. I did a few guides and spent a fair bit of time uploading photos, diagrams etc. to really make them clear and help people out. I just didn't feel comfortable them being on the forum anymore when I was being accused of ego stroking. The truth is you shouldn't throw personal abuse at members then expect them to want to contribute, although I would have let it go if they weren't supervisors.

I've literally just replied to a member who PM'd me about a mod I did, so it's not like I'm unwilling to help out.
Please thank the folks who help. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

So you decided In a stroke you would make it so new members look for a post, find it and think "oh this place is poo" and promptly leave? Who were you helping then? If anyone is not comfortable leaving information here then please don't contribute I get very little time of my own at home without having to waste more time finding topics like this. I've just spent nearly twelve months finding posts those two arses that started their own forum damaged and putting them right so they make sense and I'm still finding them. So excuse me if I seem rather pissy at wasting my time sorting out things I shouldn't need to when I have far more important things I could be doing to move the forum forward

Incidentally on opinions....opinions are like arseholes everyone has one, it doesn't mean they are right just it's their opinion. Supervisors are allowed their own opinion on things as you are allowed yours, if I don't like their opinion I take them to task, but I certainly wouldn't remove them for an opinion. Take the mr Tuscan Smokebelch incident. I raked smoke across the coals for something he said but suddenly an air of understanding has been reached. Now I'm convinced they are sleeping together ( :laughing-rollingyellow: :laughing-rollingyellow: ) but they ain't they just reached sexual peak....sorry understanding :laughing-rollingyellow: .

Lexo ripped me a new ass a few years ago on what HE THOUGHT HE KNEW. He didn't and I explained why. He apologised we moved on. He didn't need to apologise but he did.
Mr t spent his time in conversations on that wonderful hive of intelligence the ccuk hidden Facebook group. Suddenly one day he realised he was being fed the bullshit line he came back and told exactly what he'd been saying and why he now saw it wasn't true. We moved on and I thought "big on you" and it got him a lot of respect from me for his upfrontness.

lol. :icon-lol: point of all this? People fall out but people are people. Move on.
Look out guys it’s him that thinks he’s in charge!

I had a dream and in this dream there was a man surrounded in smoke, from within came a belching sound and a voice, it said 'mr t I am your father' I replied '[Flying one] off Daz is, just look at his head'. !

Everything else I've heard or read recently quite frankly is bullshit
