I'll let y'all know straight away what I think! I don't have a dyno run booked at the moment and don't have time to do a 'before' dyno run for comparison. What I can do is post some timed acceleration tests before and after the remap: 20-40 in 2nd gear, 20-40 in 3rd gear, then 2000-6000rpm. Same test that's used on the Engineering Explained youtube channel.

Caveat - it is getting a catback fitted at the same time so it won't be an entirely fair test!

The catback should improve things a bit. Decent rolling rad down in farnborough. Ill be getting mine done on their next 40 quid day, then just waiting on ross to confirm g2 for mapping and ill go again to the same RR. see whats what.

Ok I have some before/after results!

gen 3.5 coupe, 2.0 beta engine, MY2005. Powertrain mods:
Before: SRI only
After: SRI + longlife catback exhaust + ECU remap

low rpm (20-40mph in 3rd gear) = same
low-mid rpm (20-40 in 2nd gear) = 4% slower
mid-high rpm (30-50 in 2nd gear) = 5% faster
high-redline rpm (40-50 in 2nd gear) = 10% faster
complete sweep through the rev range (2k-6k rpm) = 3% faster

Each run was performed 3 times and the average taken. The timing was done by filming the speedo and rev counter, and counting the frames in the footage back at home. Due to a shaky camera I would say accuracy is +-1%.

VERDICT-
All in all, really happy!

These mods have made the car not just faster but more refined. The throttle pedal responds very linearly and progressively which reduces jerk in response to small pedal position changes, however the throttle response is also improved when I floor it! It's also easier to move off from a standstill. It feels like it has VTEC or VVT fitted - nice and tame in town, but a wave of acceleration kicks in suddenly from 4k rpm, which made me swear a couple of times on the way home!

I don't know how much of the improvement was due to the catback exhaust and how much was the ECU remap - I suspect the exhaust (rather than the remap) created the 4% drop in acceleration at low-mid rpm, because that's what generally happens with catback exhausts.

Ross confirmed that the ECU remap changes A/F ratio as well as timing, so it makes sense that the remap would help with intake/exhaust mods that let more air through. Therefore, it seems the exhaust is responsible for some of the power increase, and the ECU remap adds some extra power on top of that.

I can share the 2GB videos and results on dropbox or something, if that helps.

Little pedantic correction to my results - I said 'high-redline rpm' - I only took it to 6000rpm/just over 50mph, so I can't comment on how it performs above 6000rpm.

Yeah, as I said it's a shame I didn't have enough notice to do a dyno test beforehand for comparison. Think I'll get one done at some point this year. Would be interesting if imgoingspace could do before/after.

Still - acceleration, rather than power, is the 'noticeable' variable!

I will be dynoing mine in less than 2wk. But ross isnt doing gen2 yet, so might be a wait for me. That and im not on a standard setup, so results may vary.

Well, no. The amount of differences to factor in between doing acceleration runs are monumental, especially if you're recording on a camera and then using the speedometer in the cluster.

The ideal would be a data log with RPM and speed, then using the data log's duration to calculate the acceleration.

But a dyno will take the majority of the differentials into its equation and "normalise" it, so to speak. Using the same dyno for back-to-back comparisons, even if not on the same day, is fairly accurate for measuring gains (if any).

It's impressive he has managed to do this but the results don't seem worth it imo, especially since fuel economy will suffer even more and likely damage resell value.

In theory, if the trims are set right, it should be more efficient, as fuel isnt wasted
