Identifying Rear Stabiliser Bushes for SIII Coupes

#1

Post by Whisperhead »

First up, I have a 2009 Coupe SIII 2.0.

The ever-present knock/rattle/clunk from the rear is back. I currently have PU rear stabiliser bushes but the roads where I live are awful, and I'm pretty sure the extra firmness is destroying my drop links every 3 months.

So I've bitten the bullet and gone to the Hyundai dealership for rubber rear stabiliser bushes, but I think they've screwed up. The bushes I collected from their parts department today look like this:

Can someone with much better knowledge than me please tell me if those are the correct rear stabiliser Bush for my car, a 2009 model? If these aren't correct, does anyone know what the actual part number I need is and where I can get them?

If they don't match what's on your car then maybe someone put the older type that are a different shape on instead

Thank you for the info, appreciate it. I'm hoping that what has been suggested is the case, and the older type have been used erroneously. I heard that there is a difference in the width of the stabiliser bar itself between models, 17mm or 22mm, is this correct?
Sorry for all the questions...

You will need to measure the diameter of the bar with a Vernier then to be sure.

Your bar is correct, those bushes supplied by Hyundai are correct, I'm guessing what has happened is you have polybushes that were supplied as a bush and a bracket combo. Some polybush makers supplied a brass coloured bracket with their bush because it was easier for them to do this than to shape their bushes to fit the factory bush shape and keep the factory brackets. To fit the standard rubber anti roll bar bushes you also need to source the standard brackets.

I had the same clunking coming from the rear lefthand side when I got my S111 nearly three years ago.
I replaced the ARB bushing.
That didn't fix it.
I replaced the drop link.
That also didn't fix it.
Turned out to be the top strut mount.

You can check the diameter cheaply by wrapping a piece of string or paper round the bar. 17mm would give a "once round the bar" length of 53mm, 22 would be 69mm.

No Dougal! This one is small, but that one is far away. Small. FAR away!

Excellent info here people, thank you. I'll certainly have to double check the bar width. The string trick sounds like a good shout.

I've had the Strut Mounts replaced already, which was last year, and also have gone through 3 sets of links so far. I think they're just something I'm gonna have to keep swapping out. Impossible to avoid all the crap roads out here.

Not relishing the thought of sourcing the metal brackets.... But I'll keep you all posted on what happens, I'm gonna put my head under it this weekend.
