It seemed to work for the majority but not all.

The typical car we insure (eg modified, imported) really needs a human being rather than a online quotation facility.

You know what, i think youre onto the right idea there.

Gone are the days where you could depend on one company year after year to give the right prices - and the best way of going about business was a quick phone call. Welcome change imho.

No decisions made yet but first impressions are good :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Guys so... I’m not trying to put anybody off sky but

They gave me a cracking quote of £582 for my coupe third party but when I told Adrian flux I didn’t want to renew because I found it cheaper they quoted me £550 fully comp with driving somebody else’s car.

Following the advice above I called sky back, the response I got was from a guy called "Luke"

Luke - Yes we can beat it, do you want it now

Me- Erm... no because my current insurer may be able to beat your quote, what can you offer as I do want to find the best deal.

Luke - Well call me closer to the time of the renewal and ill beat it there and then and I "should" be able to get it so you can drive other cars.

Me- Well can I have the quote now? because if it cannot be matched I’ll go with you

Luke- well call me closer to the time

Me- I know what you’re doing, you want me to ring you when I have no time left to compare price and you might just beat it by £5, I may as well just stay with who I’m with as I’m already set up.

Luke- if you already have insurance with them then you may as well, I prob cannot beat it anyway.

Me - ok then, thank you, good bye.

I know insurance companies need to make money too, but we all will shop around for the best deal, I kind of felt pressure to deal and a "I don’t care" attitude when I wanted to shop around.

BUT competitive price I will say :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Isn't that the same guy sky had criticism levelled at them before for his abrupt attitude?

What my colleague Luke would have been trying to avoid is getting into a bidding war with another insurance broker. The other company mentioned are the UK largest insurance broker, if they wish to undercut our rate they will do, my colleague Luke however has his hands tied a little, he can only refer our quotation back to our underwriter once if our price is beaten.

You are welcome to PM me your details if you would like for me to have a look at your file and check whether we can offer driving others cars cover.

Thanks

Just bought my car insurance with Sky.

My renewal from Adrian Flux was just over £780 with £450 excess, my quote with Sky was £700, after a couple of mins was down to £650 with £200 excess.

Rang Adrian Flux back and couldn't do a better monthly deal - Sky was £182.50 deposit and £55 per month, Adrian Flux was £102 deposit and £73 per month.

Rang a couple of other insurers from here and they quoted me a lot higher. From Go Compare the best price was just under £780.

Sky wins my custom :handgestures-thumbupleft:

EDIT - After ringing AF back to cancel the insurance renewal, they then asked what the other company offered me and matched the monthly payments apart from the excess, I told them no and when they asked why, I said that beforehand that was the best deal they could offer me and now they've changed it, they should have just offered me that deal the first time!
