Banger racer in north wales

#1

Post by Bangerd »

Hello everyone.
I just bought my first coupe with the intention of using it for banger racing. It's a scabby old v reg (gen1) auto, with a 1.6 engine and auto box. I'm hoping it will keep up with the whizzy Hondas and hold its own against the bomb proof nissans. I've heard they are quite strong so should last a few meetings.
I hope you guys don't mind me destroying one of these but it is pretty crusty and there will be plenty of bits off it up for grabs when I start stripping it.
If there's any interest I will put some pics up of the build and post some clips of it in action. I will likely be after some advice on wiring soon if possible.
Cheers
Dale.

Few pics of her as she is now.
I work nights mon-Thursday so will be down at my unit tomorrow night and she should be pretty much gutted by then.
Everything but driver seat comes out, all bumpers, lights, interior, dash, glass and redundant wiring will be removed. I am making a new heavier h-frame next week with a small fuel tank and a battery box built in.
The doors will be bolted and tied shut with the driver door being welded too. I will make solid engine mounts and space the driveshafts out so they don't pop out when going airborne!
I'm hoping she will last a few meets as it's only rookie bangers, which is limited contact, but I like a crash and can rarely resist a demolition derby.

It's a bit rough but yes, a lot of fun.
The interior is now completely stripped, if anyone local wants plastics then get in touch. I would rather someone have them than it go to waste. I have a thing about throwing plastic away, I try and recycle as much as I can.

i'm liking the project, any reason for the choice of an auto or was it that it just happened to be cheap and available?

I had decided to take a break from racing for a few months so sold my cars but then this popped up for sale locally and I couldn't resist.
