Post by Lozza »

Evening guys,
Have just joined. I confess to not owning a coupe yet, but I am looking to in a couple of months. I will be looking for a v6 hopefully, depending on whether my 1500-2000 budget will stretch that far! Any advice on what to look for or avoid I'd be most grateful .

All the best

Welcome to HCOC!
What to avoid? I'll say it before anyone else does - V6 Coupes!
There'll be people who tell you that if you get a well looked after V6 everything will be fine, whereas others will tell you to avoid them like the plague due to the inevitable failure of the bottom end.
I've never owned one, and due to the horror stories I won't ever own one, but the choice is ultimately yours.

I went from a 2.0 to a v6 and they are the same on fuel. They sound amazing. People who say stay away from the v6 are the people who haven't owned one just hear the stories and assume they are all bad. I paid £1850 for mine. Just have a look on eBay and autotrader you will find one in sure

I never said anything about a fake story, I was just saying that not all V6's are bad. It just annoys me as well as other V6 owners when people who don't own them just shoot them down

The manufacturer shot them down by telling dealers not to buy them back. You can get as annoyed as you want but the fault exists and it's killing more by the week

The same engine is in the Santa fa, trajet can't remember the other one and none of them have gone bang. It's done to poor servicing or people who don't service them then wonder why they go bang

HELLO mate. Welcome to the club. As you can see, the pros and cons of a 2.7 V6 are well argued. Plenty of information on here about that though. Hours of interesting reading for you to make an informed decision. Hope you enjoy your stay with us.

Welcome to the forums. I'm strictly in the 2.0l camp myself .In my opinion for the money you're looking to spend the 2.0l is a better shout as the older cars will have higher mileage and from what I've seen the 2l stands up to this better. Of course if you could find a low mileage cheap v6 that's been regularly serviced then got for it but I would be careful of cars with 100k on the clock.

Thanks again for your replies to be honest it was just what I hoped for pros and cons for either. I will do lots of reading, I have got some time to think on it. I used to be into Capris, the sound of the 2.8 v6 burbling away still gets the jucies going! But I will do my research first.....
