Hi All,

I have recently found an old Gen1 at the back of a used car sales forecourt, unsold for over a yr, thought it was a part-ex waiting to be scrapped or something, worthless to the company so they just left it in the corner of the lot to rot! I was looking for a run around banger for a couple of K. I noticed the Gen1 when I had to tie my shoe lace and saw it under a tree half in the hedge and fell in love with it. Strange hey! Ive owned mainly TypreRs, VTIs like Civics Integras and preludes and rebuilt them, so I thought what the hell, I'll give the Hyundai a go. It turns out the previous owner had died and the widow need the money so I gave her £500 and the dealer took a percentage on the basis they pumped the tyres, cleaning some of the muck of it and made sure it started and sorted out the tax! It started first time, when I test drove it, the gear stick fell apart, the wheels rattled terrible, the brakes vibrated, everything rattled, it was intermittently misfiring the anti-rollbar drop links were rusted through, there was mould on the steering wheel the centre console rattled like no tomorrow, it was tappetting, the boot was flooded, the spare wheel is from a gen3 3l v6, lacker was peeling off everywhere, welding on the rear subframe was done really well but the rust hadn't penetrated near the strut mounting. SOOOO...I thought what a great project, ive never seen any gen1 Hyundai Coupe SE 2l full compliment on the road for years so got quite excited. 3.5 mnths later, its nearly perfect. Need a rear subframe as some rust has intercepted the rear sills, 137 is a little underpowered so needs to look at HT leads better bosch spark plugs, custom sports exhaust, better air induction (not cold air as this wont suite the engine performance readouts, strut braces f/r, maybe polished head and uprated fuel injectors (don't wanna modify the cars looks as this is already stunning).

James

Any suggestions welcome?

nice to see another gen1 being saved :handgestures-thumbupleft:

stock injectors are plenty good enough, only worth changing them if you go forced induction
