Just bought a 2008 2.0 litre auto

Hi.

I'm cheating a bit because the car will not be ready for a few days (new MOT, 2 x new tyres, valeting, etc.).

The car is almost immaculate on the outside and has only done 29,000 miles. The driver's seat itself is pretty good (I've seen examples where the owner was either incredibly heavy or fidgeted a lot !!!) but the bolster on the driver's door side has been rubbed quite badly.

I was going to look in Yellow Pages for a local vehicle upholsterer but does anyone here have any suggestions?

Also, the maintenance history post 2013 is non existent. I'd appreciate advice on what should be done - including should I get the timing belt and water pump replaced as despite the low mileage the car is coming up to 10 years old (in January)?

I look forward to hear from you.

Paul.

Sorry.

welcome to the club and congrats on the purchase, sounds like a nice one.

cambelt change is 50k miles or 5 years as a general rule so if it hasn't been done it's definitely worth getting it done

Hi Robbo.

Thanks for your welcome and reply. 5 years is a short timescale (ie, at the end of the 5 year warranty). When I get the car I'll go into the local Hyundai dealership and see if they can access maintenance records.

Paul.

Welcome Paul :text-welcomewave:

For you seat bolster if it's just surface wear just rub in a black (I take it to be black) leather seat dye.

Something like this

Sounds short but the rubber can degrade over time so it's better safe than sorry. Especially as these make a mess of themselves if the belt breaks

Hi Paul. :text-welcomewave:

It's worth popping into the garage which stamped the service book to get a print out of past repairs.
It was a successful visit after I bought my second coupe :)

They can.

Some manufacturers have shorter periods for the belt, 36k miles in some cases.

Thanks Rod. I'll give it a go (they're red seats) when the car arrives, hopefully tomorrow.

Paul.

If they are the red/terracotta colour you will need to speak to ttfr219 or Dave( taffy ) as he is called as he has dyed his red seat bolster very well indeed
