Advice On Buying My First Coupe Gen 3.5 2.0L

#1

Post by CoupeBull »

Hi, I am new to this forum, I have been looking at the Coupe for a while now and I am interesting in buying a Gen 3.5 2.0l (Would consider a V6). Looking on Autotrader the price seems to vary quite a lot, I have seen some which start at just under 2K and some which go up to 4K+.

My couple of questions are below

1) This car on Autotrader, do you think its to cheap / too good to be true?(http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/ ... ?logcode=p)

2) I know this has a lot of variables, although what price range would you suggest I should be looking at. Travelling isnt a issue.

Thanks in Advance :)

Depending on service history, at that mileage it may be ok.

Be sure to check cambelt change (first change at 50k I believe). Other members can give you good advice on what else to look for.

We bought ours just over a year ago. We too researched and decided a 2.0 Gen 3.5 was the way to go! If we had the choice again, we would go for the same. Best compromise of power and economy. Also the 3.5 has lots of subtle improvements over the 3.

Good luck!

List of faults I can see in pics:

Painted front calipers but not rears it a bit strange.
Big scuff on the front bumper near the fog light on drivers side.
Cig lighter thing missing
No floor mats
Steering wheel quite worn
Dust cap + locking nut cap missing in the wheel pic
Passenger side door has a large dent
The hand brake looks to be only 1 click off the top - could mean it needs new cables.
The paintwork on the boot (see the 'H' logo pic) is pretty bad

Nothing that can't be fixed but it's cheap for a reason.

Probably been a trade in they are just trying to get shot of before they are stuck with it cause looks like the garage doesn't care much about it. Even the boot was full of what looks like dead leaves.

personally id buy a gen 3 from dupleman they are in great condition (seen my self) and a great price (lower than autotrader), i bought my gen 2 from him and best thing ive done.
also he would give advice about the V6, that being dont get it,stick with the 2L. more to go wrong and costly to repair (ie engine rebuilds), ask him for more info bud.

I did. With coupes just because you pay a lot doesn't guarantee top quality.choose carefully there are plenty of 3.5's out there

Don't believe the hype :icon-lol: plenty of us on here have & have had a v6 with no problems, mine never missed a beat for eg. yes some have gone wrong BUT if you get a well looked after one that's allways been serviced correctly and continue to do so you stand a good chance of it being fine. & also prevention is cheaper than the cure ask nellysgto its not an absolute fortune to have the work done to prevent it. If you ask around most v6 owner wouldn't ever want to swap for a 2.0 I think there has been a couple who have and the have regretted it.
Anyway I cant talk I now have a "pink" :icon-lol: ford ka. (thought id get that in before you did Daz) :laughing-rollingyellow:
