Re: Hi everyone! To buy or not to buy?
Welcome to the forum!
From what I researched before I bought mine is: make sure the clutch is in proper working order and doesn't slip, check the rear wheel arches for developing rust, check the handbrake is all good and check the underside of the car in general as they are prone to rusting if nothing is done for prevention, as most cars are...
Other than that, try get one with FSH and don't be fooled by dealers asking upwards of 4 grand for a standard SIII even if it has low millage!
On a positive note, the engines are VERY reliable, hence why a load of coupes on sale are 100+k miles and still going strong. They stick to the road like anything and are pretty punchy - even the stock 2 litre engine.
I'm sure others will have other things to mention but there's my two cents.

Re: Hi everyone! To buy or not to buy?
Thank you!
I'm going to look at a V6 one on Thursday. They seem very reliable just the rust but as stated same as most cars so will keep an eye out from that.
I daily my RX-8 atm but she is not liking it and is costing me a boom (avg 13mpg) so looks like I am getting one of these haha!
Will update post if I grab one

Re: Hi everyone! To buy or not to buy?
If it's a v6 make sure it has had regular oil changes especially on higher mileage as they can be prone to the bottom end going if not looked after properly. Mechanically they are great but are prone to a few electrical gremlins mainly the electric windows, central locking and indicator relay. For most parts it's generally much cheaper to get them from Korea or the States as main dealers can charge silly amounts though some parts are reasonable. There's also several members who sell quality parts especially upgrades and offer loads of support and advice.CProRacing wrote:Thank you!

As far as rust the usual areas are the rear arches, sunroof surround, rear sills and front edge of bonnet.
Re: Hi everyone! To buy or not to buy?
its got to be a v6. but if you do go for a v6. make sure its a gen 3 not a 3.5 or an siii as the road tax changed in 05 making it more to tax. regular oil changes are a must to keep a v6. but same can be said for any engine. not much diffrence in mpg. but the smiles per gallon much better. as said by other folks is to look out for electric windows and central locking. also check the top of the radiator, as these have been known to crack, but all in all a great fun car to own. and its totally diffrent to what is on the roads know adays.

It was from 06 onwards that the tax went upnissan300zx wrote:its got to be a v6. but if you do go for a v6. make sure its a gen 3 not a 3.5 or an siii as the road tax changed in 05 making it more to tax. regular oil changes are a must to keep a v6. but same can be said for any engine. not much diffrence in mpg. but the smiles per gallon much better. as said by other folks is to look out for electric windows and central locking. also check the top of the radiator, as these have been known to crack, but all in all a great fun car to own. and its totally diffrent to what is on the roads know adays.

Re: Hi everyone! To buy or not to buy?
who wants to own a car that looks like every other car on the road....??
BMW's and Audi's are now ten a penny....
range rovers and land rovers are housewives cars for the school run...
and most small cars all look the same really.
Love my coupe, because i rarely see another one on the road, it's individual, looks great and stands out against the majority of "boring" cars.
Buy one!
