Hyundai veloster USA HANDBRAKE RECALL-LIKELY TO AFFECT UK

Post by thedupleman »

At the same time, Hyundai and the NHTSA announced an additional recall for 4,490 of certain 2012 Veloster models equipped with manual transmissions.

Moisture and/or grime may cause the parking brake components to bind and not work properly.

The result is that the parking brake may drag while driving or may not be fully engaged when parked. If the brake is not fully set when parked, the vehicle may have an unintended rollaway which could cause a crash.

Hyundai is notifying owners under January date to bring the vehicles in for replacement of the rear brake calipers free or charge.

The Hyundai recall number is 107. Consumers can call Hyundai if they have any questions.

The Veloster is new to the Hyundai line with about 43,000 having been sold in the U.S. since it was introduced last year. These two recalls totaling 17,990 vehicles represents about 40% of the Veloster vehicles delivered in the U.S. through November 2012.

Look out guys it’s him that thinks he’s in charge!

I think most Gen 3 owners will concur that the hand brake is not that good. Apart from freezing up some days I have to pull the handbrake lever up to the top of it's travel and other days it is fine at mid travel. The brakes are serviced regularly and greased yet the rears still freeze up when the hand brake is applied the only way to combat this is to leave the car in gear and not a apply the handbrake in cold weather.
