Cracking little fix that, will probably be useful for numerous cars out there.
Just an idea though, it might be worth (if you happen to have a spare scrap of grey leather lying around - well dupe would) covering the hinge with something.

The exact thing happen to mine and i put a hinge on mine one as well. great write up, definately a common problem on Gen 1s.

Just a quick one; I have a gen 2 and the hinge has broke, looking on the inside of the lid, there's no screws for the hinge... I'm guessing that for the new hinge you have to make new holes in the lid as there isn't any currently...? Or am I just being a dunce and not looking properly aha
