Thanks to the dupleman for the links.

This afternoon I connected a spare battery directly to the offside actuator connection inside the door, and nothing happened. I have ordered 2 new actuators. We will see if these get the central locking working.

Thanks to the other members for the kind welcome. It seems I have joined a friendly club.
