No, what I meant was if it was facing down the hill (which would imply bonnet facing down the hill) but was in reverse gear, how did it happen?

one of only 3 options then surely.......A) your reverse cog is completely stripped.....B)despite what you may have thought it wasnt fully in gear......C) clutch is utterly mullered and it slipped (never heard of that happening though, as I reckon you'd have noticed a slipping clutch well before now)
