Hyundai Recall Letter
Has anyone else received a letter about a recall? Something to do with brake lights or something... I've never had a car recalled before!

Re: Hyundai Recall Letter
Yep, missus just phoned me at work to let me know.
For those that haven't had it, to make you aware it is for the following:-
Seems the contacts in the brake light switch can fail due to carbonisation and dirt.
20 mins to fix and free (as expected)
If it fails it will affect your ABS, Traction Control, Cruise Control, Stability Control (well that's what my missus just read out to me anyway).
I'm going to book mine in just to get it sorted, means i'll have to clean the car later though.
Still, good excuse to pop into sextons next door and see if they have any speaker rings.
EDIT: Also a good excuse to see if HCOC can get discounts there aswell.
Cheers!

Re: Hyundai Recall Letter
Would have thought so, it's driven by VOSA so it goes to the current owner (according to their records) no matter how it was bought.

Re: Hyundai Recall Letter
Anne called me at work too to tell me. I imagine it shouldn't make a difference where it was bought from (we got ours from a general car dealer, non-specialist or anything). Whoever the car is registered to probably.

Recall letters are sent out to registered keepers via the DVLA database.Mr Tuscan wrote:I privately bought so am I to expect a letter?

I've had 2 in the past, Sierra - Seatbelt buckle recall around 1986.
Astra Mk3 - possible water contamination in the brake fluid master cylinder.
Irony of this recall is a brake light switch could fail anytime, as my Astra's did. I see lots of cars with no brake lights, and even brake lights on all the time. If I get the chance, I tell them. Never noticed a Coupe do it though!

Sounds like a manufacturer of the part then, probably supplies various car companies.

Should find out tomorrow if the Siii (mine at least) is affected as the dealer is looking into it. Will report back when I get the call.

Re: Hyundai Recall Letter
FROM THE USA LAST YEAR
Hyundai Motor and its Kia Motors affiliate are recalling more than 1.8 million cars and sports utility vehicles in the US to fix faults.
Hyundai is recalling 1,059,824 cars and SUVs and Kia 623,658 vehicles, from the 2007 to 2011 model years.
The move is to repair a problem with a switch that could increase the risk of a crash, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said.
Hyundai is also recalling 186,254 Elantra cars from 2011 to 2013.
This recall is to apply adhesive strips to the interior roof liner to prevent it becoming loose during the deployment of side curtain airbags, which could increase the risk of cuts during a crash, the NHTSA said.
Hyundai and Kia Motors said there had not been any crashes or injuries due to the problem. Both pointed out that the malfunctions did not occur all the time, and they did not affect performance of the brakes.
The two firms try to use the same parts in as many cars as possible to get a better deal from parts suppliers and to simplify the manufacturing process.
However when a problem occurs it can cause a massive recall.
Free replacement
The affected switch in the larger recall may cause the brake lights not to come on when the brake pedal is depressed.
The switch fault may also "cause an inability to deactivate the cruise control by depressing the brake pedal", the NHTSA said.
"Additionally, a malfunctioning stop lamp switch may also result in intermittent operation of the push-button start feature, affect the operation of the brake-transmission shift interlock feature, preventing the shifter from being moved out of the park position and cause the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) malfunction light to illuminate," stated NHTSA documents.
Failure to illuminate the brake lights or disengage cruise control could increase the risk of a crash, while disabling the brake-transmission interlock could result in the vehicle rolling away, it added.
The South Korean carmakers are informing owners, and dealers will replace the switch at no cost, the NHTSA said.
The Hyundai models affected include 2007-2009 Accent cars and Tucson SUVs, 2007-2010 Elantras, 2007-2011 Santa Fe SUVs, 2008-2009 Veracruz SUVs, 2010-2011 Genesis coupes and 2011 Sonata cars.
The Kia models include 2011 Optima cars, 2007-2010 Rondo crossovers, 2007 Sedona minivans, 2007-2011 Sorento crossovers, 2010-2011 Soul cars and 2007-2010 Sportage SUVs.

Re: Hyundai Recall Letter
Just got off the phone to my dealer who has checked and said there is no outstanding recalls on my vehicle.
Its an 06 plate gen 3.5 SE.
They've advised me to wait to see if I get a letter as apparently they're all being sent out through VOSA
