Any idea's on what's causing my front discs to warp with in 3000 miles
of steady driving.

Thanks.

Thanks for that

Both calipers are free and fitted rust free

it all seems ok for a while then the steering shudders when breaking

very strange?

Warped discs tend to make the car shudder at speed too without breaking, but yes I would go with a sticking caliper. Are their any odd marks on the disc?

where did you get the discs from? I've had a couple of dodgy pagid sets from euro carparts, they warped within a similar timeframe if not sooner.

My Coupe is on it's third set of discs now in about 3-4 months. I've fitted new front callipers (gave me an excuse to go for a BBK :P ) But as others have said, if it's not front callipers, it could be rubbish or rust on the hub or a hub run out. You can buy a tool for about £20 from Mtec brakes to measure if there is any run out.

If there is, try rotating the disc by 1 stud at a time until you get less than 0.5mm run out. If you keep getting it, try a bit of sand paper/emory cloth or a file on the hub and then test again. If this doesn't work, you can get the discs skimmed on the hub which then eliminates any run out. This is quite pricey though, I was quoted just over £70 for an axle ...

Bloody hell we just got rid of our pro cut brake lathe because no body ever wanted it doing n we only charged 20 quid a corner!
It is a good thing to have done though cuts the disc to suit the hub no judder at all after would advise you bang some new pads in at the same time aswell just so everying is nice and new together, but pads with pleanty of meet on will soon bed into the new surface fine anyway.

What make of discs and pads did you fit ?
Sometimes cheap and nasty brake pads will over heat the disc and cause it to warp.
A lot of sub standard chinese stuff floating about at the moment under various different names.

This website finds places that will skim discs on the car for you :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Yup :(

(touching wood) since changing the callipers, it seems to be ok, if it does it again, I will be using an on-car disc skimming service!

My fronts discs are noisy, have been since I fitted them, I get that swirl rotation sound on a quiet road at slow speed, braking is absolutely fine, but do you reckon this skimming would remedy this ?

It comes down to price worth result in this case really though.

along rik's lines were the pads a tight fit in the carrier when they were new? they often need fettling on the edges to make sure they are not too tight in the carrier as this will make them stick slightly.

If so, there is your answer... ;)

Standard discs

It's possible there a bit tight, you would think after 9k they would ease

If my Coupe had eaten that many rotors, I'd be touching cloth, personally... :laughing-rollingyellow:
Haha yeah! It's very expensive, and tbh I'm sick of taking my wheels off! :icon-lol:

Not had any probs with mine but with this and the last coupe i replaced the discs an pads all round when I got them.

Then you know it's a couple of years of smooth sailing.
