Most important thing is to ask if the main service has been done.
It's due at 50k for pre 08 plate cars and 60k for 08 onwards. Or 5/6yr. Whichever comes 1st.
This service includes, camb belt, aux belt, spark plugs, oil + filter change, coolant change, cabin and engine air intake filter change, fuel filter change.

It's around a £350 job at the dealers.
Each coupe I have owned I've changed the discs + pads, spark plugs and HT leads when I 1st got it. After that normal upkeep is all that's needed.

Other than that, check the brake discs. They generally last around 50k. check they are smooth on the outside and for the back run you finger over them, if it feels like there are ridges you'll need new ones.

Full service history is not essential, my own had a partial. unless it's a V6 then it's a must.

Lastly check the spare wheel well, if there is any water then a boot seal, rear washer jet seal or the rear lights seal has a leak.

That should cover the most common issues. None area deal breaker as long as you are aware, all easily fixed.
