i just had a thought how would you ensure it don't happen to your car? i recommend get rid of any surface rust, then zinc primer it and give it a coat of paint ie hammerite then waxyol it but ensure your brake components are covered up before you do it. i will probably be stripping and hammeriting mine in the spring so will upload pictures when i do it.

One thing.. If you need to jack the car up from the rear crossmember be sure to spread the load as much as possible with a piece of 2x2 as jacking from a small contact area is asking for trouble ...if just jackin one wheel my fave place is the smallish area at swinging arm mount again with 2x2 to spread the load..
With my next crossmember I'm going to fill with hot wax oil and turps mix , seal all cavities and give a good slosh around, drain any excess,, wire brush exterior,, kurust,,Hammerite , then wax oil , refitting will be a doddle as the hard work is removing it,, patience is the key to not mashing it up. :handgestures-thumbupleft:
